Myo Café: A Happy Birthday

Generally I’m quite a birthday enthusiast; days before my birthday I start dropping hints about my favourite macarons, photos I want to print or whatever art supply I’ve run out of. I think about baking something surprising for my brave colleagues (the lab rats), when to fit in tea with family and what I’m going to get for lunch. This year there wasn’t any family (other than the hubby) or colleagues and to be honest, I only knew two other people in Cork and I didn’t really want to think about my birthday too much. Despite the fear of homesickness, it started out as a great day.

I got a few great gifts from the man and a lift to Blackpool. From there I walked into town, armed with my trusty camera and fine-liners (I forgot to bring a sketch book though). I chatted to family via the internet and got a good few digital well wishes and then made a beeline for Aiysha’s Spice Shop (to get some ingredients I needed – not sure for what yet). I walked past Myo, got a key cut and then I walked past Myo again somehow and curiously ventured inside (I had actually roughly planned on going to another place for a coffee later in the day).

It wasn’t long before I sat down by the large windows overlooking the Lee with a nice big cappuccino and the public sketch pad. The décor and the taste of music speak for themselves (see below, then go have a listen at the café in person). The baked goods are tasty, there’s a nice variety of tea on offer and the coffee is yum.

It was pretty much the perfect spot to spend a birthday morning; the day passed pen in hand and for the first time in a good while I met some new people and got to share ideas and stories. Myo‘s like that: it creates a space for creative thinking, meeting, growing and appreciating the little things. Not many places have that vibe.
