I found the open-plan Cork Craft & Design store on the ground floor of the Douglas Village Shopping Centre and was suddenly drawn in for a closer look at the works of local artisans and artists on display. Creations included glass items, jewellery, textiles, furniture, ceramics, woodwork, accessories, home decor items and of course art. The shop is set up by the voluntary organisation which aims to represent the host of makers in the city and county of Cork. By displaying the talent all in one place (the makers themselves live in different areas all over the county), it is a useful space for both makers and shoppers.
The organisation also organises Cork Craft Month which will be running this year from 2 August – 4 September. It will consist of a main exhibition, pop-up shops, fairs, workshops and the Open Studio Trail as well as the Made in Cork Trail.
Find out about more craft related events here or learn about the makers themselves over at this gallery.
