Het Scheepvaartmuseum

I wasn’t that excited to go to this museum, but I actually loved it. It was a freezing cold, rainy day in Amsterdam and the museum had just the right amount of variety to keep me interested. Housed in a former naval storehouse, the museum covers many different aspects of maritime history, from paintings to model ships, navigation instruments, old maps (my favourite) and a hundred year old replica of the VOC ship, Amsterdam.

Like most museums in the city, you have to leave your bag in a locker before entering. If you get hungry, there is a café that serves snacks and a shop for some take-home memories or funky gifts.
