Well, here’s some exciting news: We’re on our way to Ireland to live there for a bit! My husband, will be starting a new job there. En route we decided to stop at a Schengen country because our visas for that area are still valid. It was either Paris or Amsterdam (it felt like we didn’t have […]
Het Scheepvaartmuseum
I wasn’t that excited to go to this museum, but I actually loved it. It was a freezing cold, rainy day in Amsterdam and the museum had just the right amount of variety to keep me interested. Housed in a former naval storehouse, the museum covers many different aspects of maritime history, from paintings to model ships, […]
Brunch at the Peregrine Café
A while back on the way to Hermanus, we stopped at the Peregrine Farm Stall in Elgin (Western Cape) and grabbed a brunch at the café. Every-time I go in there I do a tour of all the local produce, weird preserves and fresh bakes at that farm stall. It’s really difficult to leave without quince […]
One Day in Nature’s Valley
Monkeys, Knysna loeries, deer, snakes and dolphins are a few of the things that you might be lucky enough to see on a stop-over in Nature’s Valley. Off-season times are the quietest, and can still have good weather. We visited the reserve area towards the end of April and had the campsite, and most of […]
Mr. Bear
Doodling around, I started drawing a few warmly dressed bears and decided to upgrade one from a sketch to watercolour. Mr. Bear here was probably one of the things that sparked the thought in my friend MJ’s mind, that I might be able to illustrate invitations to his wedding. He wanted a sheep painted (his then […]
Saint-Émilion, France
On my last post, I failed to make an introduction to this series of travel photos. So, briefly: the man and I went on a camping road trip in Europe for the month of June. We landed in Paris and then headed to Basque Country in the south west and towards Spain, then we continued […]
Pensive Portraits
Back in 2009 was when I first started using the combination of watercolour and black ink / fineliner- in the non-traditional sense. I’ve always been drawn to drawing faces, usually sad ones. I should definitely practise expanding my skills to drawing full length characters, but faces are lovely things.
Faith
I get annoyed by people who like to reason things away, because honestly, you just can’t sometimes. And I guess that’s where faith comes into it. I’ve never really made this sort of thing with Photoshop and just did this on a whim of sudden inspiration; I really like how it turned out though.
Mermaid Hair
I’ve been doodling around and trying to improve on drawing hair, almost in a bit of an anime style. The only way to improve is to draw loads of it. I used a range f colours for shading in wax crayon and did my outlines with fine-liner. I wouldn’t naturally draw in such a dewy-eyed style […]
Macro at Kirstenbosch
A friend and I decided to practise our macro photography at Kirstenbosch Gardens in Newlands one morning. I used a Vivitar macro zoom less made for a film camera (one of my grand-father’s lenses) on my digital SLR and she used her new digital macro lens. I had to play around with exposure and manual focus which […]
