Imagine a row of volcanic islands that offer a dry desert-like landscape as well as forests, beautiful beaches and mountains with loads of caves, great surfing conditions, tropical fruit and really comfortable weather.
You might have heard of Tenerife, and if not, you’ve probably heard of the Canary Islands and have a general idea ofwhere they are situated (off the west coast of northern Africa). The islands are Spanish and there are some locals who prefer not to speak any English, so be prepared with a few useful phrases.
We flew into Tenerife airport – the first stop on our little island holiday -and stayed the night in a little area called Las Galletas. I took my camera with for a morning stroll along some pebbled beaches and to the local harbour (that people fish and swim in too) and was immediately taken by the beautiful morning light and black volcanic sand.
